Coconut butter is very different to coconut oil as it is made from the coconut flesh and is therefore a whole food. You can make your own coconut butter by blending shredded coconut for several minutes, but it is much easier to buy it ready made! With a strong coconut flavour this is lovely on toast, for frosting a cake, or for making sweets. A perfect companion for chocolate.

Coconut butter recipes

Solid and crumbly when cold, coconut butter is a little grittier than nut butters. When heated, it forms a nice gooey paste. Warm it up slowly in pot of hot water until it reaches the desired gooeyness for your recipes. Use it as a nut-free alternative in recipes that require nut butters.
